College Graduate Y'all

So I may have graduated college last week with my bachelors of science in Genetics and Biotechnology. It's so not a big deal or anything, psych I haven't stopped talking about it since it happened. I am graduated and unemployed, living the American dream! =)

I'm an aunt!

I am officially an aunt!!! Jay Wells Niedfeldt is 8 pounds 8 ounces, rocks a tiny double chin, has tons of hair, and I couldn't love him more. I am already digging this whole being an aunt thing and we are only on day 3. I apologize in advance for the excessive posts which I am sure will be dedicated to baby Jay. Now enjoy the following pictures and pretend that immediate family aren't the only ones who find newborn pictures attractive. =)

Sincerely Yours,

The day we celebrate Pink...or something else

What do you do if you are single on the day that the whole world celebrates love? You through a party and eat pink heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes of course. A day to celebrate love may not excite me, but a day to be able to use and wear extreme quantities of pink? I'm in. And, judging by the 50+ people turnout, I'd say a few other people agreed. =)

If you didn't snap it then it didn't happen. Wait is that not true?

Pink apron, pink shirt, pink nails, pink pancakes. Score

Also, I am incapable of cooking for people without absolutely destroying my kitchen. Look at that background. One day I will be able to make a perfectly delectable meal and end up with a spotless kitchen, until then I will destroy my kitchen and then leave the dishes sitting in the sink all afternoon while I recuperate. It is what it is.

Happy (very very late) Valentines Day!

Insincerely Yours,
Heidi Jane

It's Cabin Time!

Over Presidents day weekend a bunch of friends and I made a two hour jaunt to my roommates family cabin. It was pretty much perfect. We were only there for 36 hours, but we managed to play tons of games, go snowmobiling and four wheeling, eat delicious food that my roommates parents cooked for us, watch movies, stay up way too late, and just generally have a fantastic time. Also, there was no internet there, which made me panic for a hot second, but then I got over it and realized I loved being distraction free!

Also, it was so beautiful up in the mountains and now I am craving some more adventure.

Those mountains, I can't get enough.

This was my first time four wheeling and it was way icy and slippery. I drove like a grandma and I loved every second of it.

Look at that delicious spread...Mmmmmmmm...Homemade sourdough pancakes and homemade coconut syrup. Heaven.

And what kind of weekend would it be without a little group time nap time thrown in.

Until Next time.

Insincerely Yours,
Heidi Jane

A semester of Lasts

Since this is my last semester here at college I am really becoming sentimental about all of my "Lasts" that are happening. My first last happened recently (are you confused yet?). My last harp concert at BYU. I am minoring in harp performance and I have loved every second of it. My family has always been great at supporting me and they always found time in their busy semester sand schedules to come to my concerts, even though they were always way to long (why are all classical concerts to stinking long?!). So here is to the first of the lasts. It sure has been a good ride.

Wow that was mushy and sentimental, excuse me while I go cry in a corner.

Insincerely Yours,
Heidi Jane

Year of the Monkey

It wouldn't have been Christmas break if my family hadn't taken a trip to China Town in Chicago. One of our closest family friends lives in the heart of China town so we take any excuse we can to visit him. He and his girlfriend are very into Chinese fortunes and so at the beginning of the year they always tell us our fortunes for the year. Year of the Monkey looks like they are going to have a good year. It is about flipping time.

Prospects for the Year of the Monkey

Career: Someone of the opposite sex will possibly bring you good luck to make your job go more smoothly. (As long as he is single and attractive I am down ;))

Fortune: This year's Wealth Luck will bring small losses and small gains. Things will be stable as long as you don't make high-risk investments. (Why does my fortune never predict insane amounts of money? Maybe 2016...)

Romance: Your Romance Luck is strong, so pay attention to members of the opposite sex around you for opportunities to fall in love. (Now that is what I am talking about!)

And one of this kid because how could I resist? He is honestly the most loved (read: most spoiled) child on the planet. He flashes that grin and we can't say no....and it is not likely that will change anytime soon. =)

Insincerely Yours,
Heidi Jane

Nerd Alert: Volume II

You know when you have made the elite nerd club? When your name is submitted to be a student volunteer to show some of the biggest donors to your college around the new life sciences building. You know when you become the leader of the nerd club? When you are so excited because you get to dress up and wear a lab coat and pretend to be an up-and-coming scientist.

I read the blogs of people who are dancers and fashionistas and world travelers. Can nerdy scientists blog too? We will see...

Also, let it be known that I made a wrong turn when giving the tour and got totally confused and pretended like I took us down a hallway so I could get a drink and show them the drinking fountains. Because of course none of these people have ever seen a drinking fountain before. Heidi Jane ladies and gentlemen,

Future nerds of America people. No autographs please.

Insincerely Yours,
Heidi Jane
